Our Ethos
The principles that guide how we build BeyondViet
How It Works
BeyondViet isn't a translation app—it's a conversation facilitator.
The website helps you prepare before the moment. The downloadable app handles the in-person exchange with structured English and Vietnamese screens for taxis, vendors, waiters, hotels, pharmacies, and other high-friction situations.
No awkward phrase playback. No generic phrasebook. Just scenario-specific help when misunderstanding would be expensive, stressful, or unsafe.
Every Person Deserves Access to Authentic Experiences
We believe travel should be accessible to everyone, regardless of budget. We will never gatekeep information behind paywalls. All curated experiences, local knowledge, and cultural insights are viewable by everyone—for free.
Booking through us is optional convenience, not a requirement. We earn revenue by adding value, not by withholding information.
We Respect Your Attention
No dark patterns. No manipulative urgency tactics. No "2 people are looking at this right now" nonsense. We earn your attention by being genuinely useful, not by being annoying.
No intrusive ads. No nagging "rate us!" prompts. No notifications unless they're actually helpful. We won't spam you, manipulate you, or waste your time with features that serve us instead of you.
Building a Sustainable, Ethical Business
We're not venture-backed. We're not building an extraction machine. We're building a sustainable business that serves travelers and respects locals.
Our revenue model:
- •Optional booking convenience
- •Business tools for professionals
- •Pay-per-use live translation
Basic communication features remain free, because everyone deserves to navigate Vietnam with dignity.
Built on Fair Partnerships
We work directly with Vietnamese translators, guides, and experience providers. Fair compensation, transparent commissions, sustainable relationships. No exploitation.
We're building something that benefits both travelers and locals—not extracting value from Vietnam, but creating it.
Cultural Respect Built-In
We don't just translate words—we provide cultural context. In the app, a request like "Is this halal?" or "Is this vegetarian?" should appear in Vietnamese plus an explanation of what that means, because these concepts are not universal.
Safety First: When the app communicates a life-threatening allergy, the Vietnamese message should use clear severity warnings: "Khách hàng có thể CHẾT nếu thức ăn chạm vào đậu phộng"(Customer can DIE if food touches peanuts).
We take safety seriously.
Offline-First Design
The most important conversations happen when you don't have WiFi—in a taxi, at a street food stall, in a market. Core app conversation flows should work offline, so you can prepare scenarios before your trip and use them in the app when the browser would be the wrong tool.
Some features (like live maps or currency conversion) may require connectivity, but we'll never leave you stranded mid-conversation.
Your Privacy Matters
- We don't sell your data
- We don't track your location when you're not actively using the app
- We collect only what's necessary to provide the service
We're transparent about what we collect and why. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Built in Vietnam, For Travelers to Vietnam
This isn't built by Silicon Valley tech bros who visited Vietnam once. It's built by someone living in Vietnam, experiencing these communication challenges daily, and genuinely trying to solve them.
What We're Not
- We're not a language learning app
- We're not a tour company
- We're not selling your data to advertisers
We're a bridge between cultures—helping you have real conversations, not manufactured tourist experiences.
